Copyright © 2003-2007 Bonnie Buckley- Military Mascots It is highly advised that all pets coming out of the Middle East & South Asia be blood tested for Leishmania, Babesia, Ehrlichia & Brucellosis very soon after US arrival by your veterinarian. These are blood tests that your veterinarian can perform and send out for the Lab results. Depending on what country your pet is being shipped from, these blood tests can be performed prior to shipping at a cost of approx $40-$60 each and is the preferred method for health reasons. These are Zoonotic illness's (people and other pets can catch) so these blood tests should be done ASAP. All Mascots are shipped via commercial cargo flights using the assistance of Military Mascot volunteers and/or qualified shipping and transport agents. All pets must be rabies vaccinated (with proof) longer than 30 days before US import, therefore you should seek out US Military (if allowed) or local veterinary care at your deployed locale for vaccination's as soon as possible. Proof of all vaccination's and a valid veterinary health certificate are required for all flights and a US entry. The Health certificate must be dated less than 10 days prior to flight. It is prefered that all dog's & cat's be rabies vaccinated longer than 3-6 months prior to shipment due to the Country's these pet's are exporting from. Shipping Kennel: You should have an Airline approved shipping kennel mailed to your APO address that is suited for the size of your pet 6-8 weeks prior to shipping so your pet can adjust themselves safely to the kennel for their long flight. The kennel must be specific to your pet's weight, height and length and the sizes are regulated by the airline. (Request this information by email) Airline Shipping fees: (size, weight & US destination pending!) Iraq Pets: $600.00 to $1200.00 Afghanistan Pets: $900.00 to $2900.00 Turkey Pets: $400.00 to $1,200.00 All other Countries: This will require research into airlines, volunteers & shipping agents. The above cargo fees are approx airfare fees only, this does not include the administration fees charged by overseas agents for export/import papers, health certificate, ground transport, boarding, veterinary fees or for any required US connection flights. All pets must land at International ports of entry and be greeted by a consignee (your family member or a Mascot volunteer) to be cleared through US Customs. The below would be the normal locations for landing your mascot. You may find that that your pet will need a connection flight from the State where we are able to land them in the US. June through August flights are effected by heat embargoes, as well as the winter months effected by the cold weather. No pets can be shipped when the tempertures are below 45 or above 85 degrees. The weather forecast must be watched at all ports along your pet's flight path to the US and at any layover ports overseas.
